It’s become a tradition at our school for seniors to paint their parking spots as a way to mark the start of their final year. This year, students were able to purchase a spot for $10, and they brought their own paint and supplies from the store to bring their designs to life. Spots were first come, first serve, so many seniors arrived early to claim a space close to the front.
Groups of friends, family members, and other seniors gathered throughout the day to help each other paint. Music played from open car doors, and students shared brushes, chalk, and leftover paint as they worked on their designs. What started as plain slabs of pavement slowly turned into colorful displays of personal style.
Senior students explained that the experience was more than just decorating a parking spot, it was a chance to create something that would last through the school year. Some students spent hours sketching out their ideas before painting, while others took a more relaxed approach, letting the design come together as they worked.
Senior Sophia Wood said they spent nearly the whole day painting their spot after gathering supplies the night before. They said the hardest part was deciding on a design, but the best part was seeing it finally come together.
Senior Joey Marsh arrived early to make sure he got a spot up front. With help from friends, he finished their painting much faster than expected.
“It was fun having everyone out there at the same time,” Marsh said.
Even a few teachers stopped by to see the progress, offering encouragement while the students worked. By the end of the day, the parking lot looked completely transformed, with each spot telling its own story.
For many seniors, painting their parking spot was a creative way to leave their mark on the school before graduation.
