Winnetonka AVID juniors had the opportunity to tour the University of Kansas on Nov. 23. AVID is a resource that students can use to help them with college. The purpose of the college trip was to give students an option of where they could go.
The drive to KU took about 45 minutes, and the campus was huge. As the group walked into the school, they were immediately welcomed.
Students explored the front part of the school before attending a presentation about enrollment, student data, and living spaces. Three student ambassadors then came in, and the group asked questions about tuition, studying abroad, and the programs KU offers.
Many students shared their thoughts on whether KU was the right school for them. Junior Timothy Collins said, “I don’t think KU is right for me because I don’t want to be too close to Kansas City, but I had such a good experience, and if I were looking for something closer, I definitely would explore KU.”
Adding to that, junior Kaitlyn Milligan said, “It was a very good experience for me. My tour guide had dance in common, so it was nice to be with someone I had something in common with, and I learned a lot about the community KU has.”
Students found the trip to be a great experience overall. Everyone at KU was very welcoming, and there were many opportunities to explore. The group went to lunch and left around 1:25 p.m.
To find more information about the university, students can visit KU’s website. AVID will continue working on GPA improvement, and next semester the group will go on another college visit.
