Winnetonka students hosted the Culture Fair and assembly on Nov. 14 during advisory and fourth block in the Aux Gym and main gym. Students took time to prepare and cook food from their cultures, which was shared with classmates during the fair. Classes came down to the Aux Gym with their teachers to try different foods from each booth.
The excitement from students trying new foods made many feel proud of their own cultures. During fourth block, everyone came down to the main gym to watch different cultures perform their traditional dances. Cultures represented included South Sudan/Sudan, Congo, Iran, Somalia, Haiti, Kurdistan, Germany, and more.
Many students enjoyed both the Culture Fair and the assembly. Sophomore Aladin Ahmed said, “a lot of people made mistakes but being with friends and seeing people appreciate our culture and hype us up made it fun.” The fair also sparked curiosity about how each booth was set up and the meaning behind the displays.
Junior Suad Hassen said, “We printed pictures for each booth and enjoyed watching people enjoy our culture.” The Culture Fair allowed students to share traditions, learn from one another and celebrate the diversity within the school.
