On Thursday, September 18, 2026, more than 40 students picked up free homecoming dresses at Winnetonka High School in Kansas City, Missouri. The giveaway, held in Rooms F7 and F8, was a collaboration between KC Current and Nuuly designed to make homecoming more affordable and inclusive for all students. Voices filled the room as students flipped through racks of dresses. Friends called each other over to mirrors and offered compliments as someone stepped out wearing a new dress.
The event featured over 100 dresses in different sizes and styles, all offered at no cost. Students browsed the racks, tried on options in fitting rooms, and took home their favorites. Two KC Current players, Mary Long and Hailie Mace, attended to help them choose dresses and take photos with attendees.
“Homecoming can be expensive, and not everyone has the means to buy a dress,” leadership teacher Morgan Musselman said. “This was a way to help students feel confident without worrying about cost.”
The giveaway was organized by leadership teachers Morgan Musselman and Trent Moore, along with the student leadership team, to support classmates who might find it difficult to afford homecoming. Senior Lan-An Tran said she really enjoyed the event. “I found a dress I really liked for Homecoming Court,” Tran said. “It took a lot of stress away from having to find and buy one.”
