Challenged to write about her snow days, Chloe Tamara shares about her time with Peanut and surviving virtual learning.
Blinding white snow falls outside as I turn up the volume on my TV. Scrolling on Netflix, I find Tom & Jerry. As the snow grows heavier, I just know that a snow day is inevitable tomorrow.
I hear the garage door open. My new pet ferret Peanut and I sit in the nearest windo to watch my Dad battle the wind and snow to shovel while we stay comfortably inside.
Since I was little, one of my favorite things to do while it snows is drink hot chocolate. I bust out an Arctic White Land ‘O Lakes cocoa packet from our tea cabinet and boil some water to make a treat.
With my steaming mug of cocoa in my hand, I hit “play” on the remote. Peanut snuggles in next to me. Though I know he’s certain to run off in the next few minutes, I’ll savor this perfect moment in a perfect day.

It’s a snow day! Unfortunately, I am forced to spend the morning shoveling the front porch. I learn the hard way that Peanut doesn’t like the snow, because it causes his paw to be wet.
After shoveling, I use my free time to finish up a library book. That book has been taunting me from my desk for the past few months. Read me!
Hopefully we don’t have to do virtual learning tomorrow. Seeing how deep the snow is outside, I highly doubt that I will get my wish.
Tuesday, January 7
It’s a virtual day.
I do not want to be here, but…it is what it is.
I open my computer and see 12 assignment notifications. I think, “Why did they post so much?”
Time flies by, and I’m still procrastinating on some of my work.
While I look around the house for the perfect spot to work, Peanut protests since I am not giving him enough attention.
Looking out my window before hopping onto another virtual school meeting, I wonder what I did to deserve this.
Knowing that another virtual learning day will happen again tomorrow, I just hope that it won’t be as bad as today.
