Senior Clayre Barkema douses her face in water at the end of her first ever cross country race on Sept. 19 at the Smithville Layfette Invitational meet during the girls junior varsity 3300 meter run.
“I started cross country this year to stay in shape, but it has ended up being one of my favorite memories of high school,” Barkema said. “Through the pain and the hurt, we always end up stronger. I’m teaching myself I’m capable of things that I never thought I was.”
