After months of preparation, eight students earned a seat in the Kansas City Metro All-District Orchestra and All-District Band ensembles following auditions at Liberty High School on Nov. 4.
Senior Dillon Osborn, who has been playing tuba for seven years and bass trombone for four years, made it into All-District band for both of his instruments.
“It made me feel accomplished [to make it into the group] because beforehand, I had always made it so close but not quite,” Osborn said. “Now, I actually have made it.”
Since Osburn auditioned on two instruments, he had to learn two different sets of audition material, as the music is different for every instrument.
“They give you pieces of music to practice in as early as May. You have until November to learn it, practice it and become proficient in it,” Osburn said. “I enjoy it though. It’s almost another way for me to express myself in a way. It kind of helps me relax and keep my mind off of the stress of school.”
