During the football game on Sept. 8 at the NKC district field stadium, Winnetonka alumni and U.S. Army soldier Jawon Anderson coaches senior Kevin Greene before the team’s next play. Tonka lost the game to Kearney High School later that night. For the players, coaches, and fans at the game the most important part of the game was how it honored United States military.

“The military appreciation game is important to me because I have lots of family members in the military,” varsity football coach Jared Barge said. “It’s really great to be able to live in a country that allows us to play sports and the military appreciation game allows us to pay it forward to those who served our country.”
