2D and APSA students took a trip to the Thomas Hart Benton House and Studio on April 12. Benton was an artist in the 1930’s during the Great Depression. He died in his studio as he was finishing up the touches on one of his murals.

After visiting Benton’s house, the art students made their way to The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art to look at the more contemporary and 3D art in the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park.

Lastly the young artists wentto the Plaza to draw from observation using one of Benton’s famous techniques, the bump and hollow effect.
