Paciencia Y Fe

Francesca Valente as Abuela Claudia sings in frustration while Anna Braman, Cameron Daniel, Ryann Hill, and Darian Davis back her up by echoing the phrase “Paciencia Y Fe” or translated as “Patience and Faith.” During Act I of “In the Heights,” Abuela is faced with a pleasant surprise and is unsure what to do next. But as she repeats the phrase over and over, she is welcomed by her memories of leaving Cuba and entering New York for the first time in 1945.

And now, I’m wide awake,” said Abuela. “A million years too late. I talk to you, imagining what you’d do. Remembering what we went through.”
